It's great to have the opportunity to join this Blog and let you know about the opportunities for publishing with IDP. Indigo Dreams Publishing Ltd, owned and run by Ronnie Goodyer and Dawn Bauling, are proud to be the Poetry Sponsors for the 2012 Brit Awards and champion poetry through our three magazines, anthologies and individual collections. We work in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support on anthologies to raise valuable funds to support their work. Soul Feathers, released last year, made number 2 on the Waterstone's poetry best sellers, with contributions from Carol Ann Duffy, Bob Dylan, Seamus Heaney, Maya Angelou, Leonard Cohen, Benjamin Zephaniah and many more. We aim to go one better than that with our 2013 title, Heart Shoots. More on that in another blog post.
In addition to poetry we also publish both fiction and non-fiction. We are open to submissions now and are considering titles for our late 2013 list. We have an established method for
publishing enquiries that is the same for new and established authors. Our
website www.indigodreams.co.uk
explains the system very clearly. We have Publication
Enquiry Forms that are submitted as an email attachment to an enquiry email.
This asks relevant questions that provide all the information for a stage
consideration. These are considered, like-with-like, at our Acquisition
Meetings. No complete manuscripts are ever considered at this stage, just a
sample chapter or poetry selection. Those that are of particular interest at
that time are invited to submit complete manuscripts as a second stage process.
Finally, any we would like to publish will be offered a royalty contract.
We pride ourselves in publishing
many first-time writers and have given the backing for them to move to a larger
audience. We will continue to develop this and provide one of the reducing
number of opportunities in modern-day publishing. The risks we take are
monitored only by our self-imposed restrictions and financial ability. We
make the final selections and oversee book formatting, printing, marketing,
and, more often than not, cover design. We are distributed by Central Books in the UK and sales representation thorugh Global Books. We
are completely open-minded about what we publish. A track record is a great
thing to have, but it all started with their first book! As mentioned earlier,
we look at the individual work submitted to us as a stand-alone item and decide
on that basis alone. Partner and co-director Dawn is a confirmed book-sniffer and is passionate about
the printed page. If something stands out, then it gets every possible chance,
though of course it is simply not possible to publish all that we’d wish.
So, if you have a completed, honed manuscript that you absolutely believe is your best work then go to our website and have a look around. Go to the fiction and poetry sections of our bookshop. If you are impressed by what you see, then complete the proposal forms and you have a guarantee that your work will be considered with time and attention at an Acquisition Meeting.
We are also developing our assisted self-publishing market with many successful self-published titles already. We have formed a new imprint, Dorcas Imprints, to cater for the more niche markets that wouldn't necessarily be considered for a royalty contract. More details on that very shortly.
