Dear Brit
Writers, if you have found that your internet based procrastination skills have
dramatically flourished ever since you decided to ‘properly start taking
writing seriously,’ then might I suggest the following quiz:
Do you like
the idea of writing?
If you
answered YES proceed to question 2.
Do you like
writing?
If you
answered YES proceed to question 3.
Do you want
to write?
If you
answered YES proceed to question 4.
This one is
very important…do you actually really definitely want to write?
If you
answered YES proceed to question 5.
Ask yourself
truly deep within your heart the following: What is more important to me this
morning/afternoon/evening:
a) to mindlessly stalk someone on twitter or facebook and/or constantly refresh the page to see if there’s anything new and interesting to ‘like’ or RT, OR
b) to write a bit more of that novel or short story or whatever it is you are supposedly working on these days.
a) to mindlessly stalk someone on twitter or facebook and/or constantly refresh the page to see if there’s anything new and interesting to ‘like’ or RT, OR
b) to write a bit more of that novel or short story or whatever it is you are supposedly working on these days.
Depending on what your answer was to question 5, you
should now have a better idea of your priorities and what you actually want
from today and even quite possibly your life.
If you answered b, I suggest the following: for at least
just a couple of hours disconnect from the internet 100% and go have an
intimate face to face date with your writing, and literally see how it changes
EVERYTHING.
Go on try it, I dare you to. You are only a writer when
you write.
And if you answered a…well…surely no one answered a,
right?
